Michael Jordan basketball cards are highly sought after and his rookie and autographed cards could be the best cards ever printed as well as the most valuable. There are other cards that are worth more, but will that be the same twenty years from now? Who knows. There are the different choices in his rookie cards.
As many people know, the 1986-87 Fleer set has both a rookie card, and a sticker card. The Star Company sets have many inserts and variations.
Here is a picture of a Michael Jordan basketball card from when he was on the Olympic Team.

Kobe Bryant has had a great career. Something I find interesting is that when he was drafted out of high school in 1996, he was not near the number one pick in the first round of the draft. He was not even in the top ten. When he was selected, if I remember correctly, there were a lot of opinions that thought the Lakers selected him too high in the draft. I attribute that to the type of era that the NBA was in. In 1996, the NBA did not have as many players making the leap from high school directly to the NBA. In fact, Kevin Garnett was among the first players who ever made that leap. In 1996, Jermaine O'Neal also went straight from high school into the NBA. At that time in the NBA, most of the biggest names went to college before entering the league. Obviously, that has now changed. Players like Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett and Jermaine O'Neal succeeding in the NBA surely must have helped. That is one of Kobe Bryant's accomplishments and contributions that has helped the NBA and the sport of basketball in general. Sports are moving further and further toward a global stage and accomplishments like these help build the process.

Here are some of my favorite basketball rookie cards:
Hakeem Olajuwon rookie card listing is as follows.
1984-85 Star Company #237 XRC Hakeem Olajuwon
1986-87 Fleer #82 rookie card
2008-09 basketball cards are a great year for rookies and contain many great cards. I have purchased some packs and can honestly say that there are some great products out there. One of the best rookies I have seen is Michael Beasley.

Also, some of the rookies like Jason Thompson and Brandon Rush can come out of nowhere to become major players this year (as of last year 2008-09). Darrell Arthur of the Grizzlies is also playing surprisingly well as I have checked the box scores and he has outperformed O.J. Mayo thus far. O.J. Mayo is extremely talented so that is not a knock on him, but more of an example of how lesser known rookies can come out of nowhere to put up solid stats.

Star Company and Fleer Basketball contain rookie cards of Hakeem Olajuwon, and are among the most sought after basketball cards from the 1980's, and of all time because of their rarity. This posting will address some key issues and describe some of the many cards available of Hakeem from this time period.
Hakeem Olajuwon's XRC (rookie card as well) is in 1984-85 Star Company basketball cards in the regular issue set, and it has a book value in Beckett of about $240, possibly $200. It comes in the bagged team set of the Houston Rockets. While the cards are denoted 1984, as they were produced in that year, he also appears in other rare bagged sets from Star Company in 1984. Those can be priced a bit more affordably, with cards of his booking for around $60, as an example. In 1985-86 Star Company, the bagged set including him is readily available on Ebay most of the time, and has a great second year card that books about $85. I have one for sale in the unopened bagged set as well.
In Fleer, his rookie card came in 1986-87, and is very valuable and sought after, though books at about $40. It is less valuable than his second year card in Star Company, though is still technically considered to be a rookie card as are all of the rookies in 1986-87 including Michael Jordan. The Star Company cards were not originally widely available and the best explanation as to why they are considered XRC's and not rookies, is because they are similar to traded card sets in that they did not come in packs, but rather in sealed team bagged sets. I am not sure if that is what Beckett and the other price guides' explanation is as to the difference, but it makes sense as the Fleer cards were available in packs and boxes. Enjoy and please take a look at this page to find all of the best and rarest Star Company basketball cards of Hakeem Olajuwon.
